2026 TOORAK HANDICAP DETAILS

The famous Toorak Handicap is set to deliver another thrilling chapter as a quality field lines up for the 147th renewal of Caulfield's iconic mile handicap.
The Toorak Handicap has been a feature of the Australian Racing calendar since 1881, when JOSEPHINE claimed the inaugural running. Contested over 1600m for all but one edition, the prestigious race was recognised as a G1 in 1979.
Notable winners of the Toorak Handicap include TOBIN BRONZE (1967), GALILEE (1966), NICOPOLIS (1963, 1964), CANNY LASS (1986) and MORE JOYOUS (2010), while SOLZHENITSYN (2012, 2013) remains the most recent dual winner of the race.
Despite starting as rank outsiders, OPPRESSOR (1994) and THE BOHEMIAN (1944) produced major upsets, sharing the record as the longest-priced winners of the Toorak Handicap at $50.
