LINDERMANN (1) should control this from the front without having to burn much petrol early. Blake Shinn can dictate from barrier 1 before increasing the pressure approaching the turn, and that could make him very difficult to run down. He arrives here off a strong second-up win and the rise to 1800m looks suitable.
DANGERS
COSMIC CRUSADER (5) lost no admirers last start after covering ground and still fighting strongly to the line. He'd won his previous two and his only appearance over 1800m produced a Group 1 Northerly Stakes victory. He looks right at home under these conditions.
AELIANA (9) finished at the tail first-up but there was more merit in the performance than the result suggests, highlighted by a sharp final 200m. She should improve significantly with that run behind her and getting out to 1800m.
BIRDMAN (6) has already demonstrated his liking for this exact course and distance, winning here second-up during the autumn. He's entitled to come forward from his return and gets another suitable set-up.
LONGSHOTS
BUCKAROO (2) ran 2nd in this race last year to SIR DELIUS, won in 2024. Excels this circuit and is the forgotten horse.
VERDICT
LINDERMANN (1) gets the tactical advantage. From barrier 1 he should own the front, control the tempo and make his rivals chase when Shinn decides to wind things up.

ZAHRANN (14) has performed well in each of his three Australian starts after arriving with Group 1 form from Ireland. The set-up here looks particularly favourable. There's no obvious pressure up front and he maps to land much closer than many of his main rivals. Ethan Brown should be able to find a comfortable position without spending much petrol and the rise to 2000m looks ideal.
DANGERS
SAINT GEORGE (3) has built an impressive record with four wins from his past six starts and continues to progress. Barrier 20 makes the assignment considerably tougher, particularly if the tempo is only moderate, but his current form demands respect.
WOOTTON VERNI (5) hasn't fired in two runs this preparation but gets to 2000m third-up and should now be ready to show more. The draw gives Craig Williams the opportunity to put him into the race without covering unnecessary ground.
MACHINE GUN GRACIE (16) should be able to settle among the first few despite drawing out. That could prove a significant advantage if the race develops into the tactical affair we're expecting.
LONGSHOTS
CAMPALDINO (6) was well below his best when resuming but should take improvement from the run. He may be asked to roll forward from the wide barrier and could find himself in a favourable position if they're allowed to control things up front.
VERDICT
ZAHRANN (14) gets the race shape we want. He should be able to settle within striking distance and looks ready to convert a string of good performances into a win. We'll go one-out for our best of the day.

SUN GOD (14) gets into this with just 52.5kg and has the benefit of barrier 2. He's put together two wins from his past three and now gets his opportunity at Group 1 level with plenty in his favour. With the speed unlikely to be brutal once they find their positions, Jye McNeil should be able to give him an economical run. At $26, he's worth finding out whether he can take the next step.
DANGERS
REGAL AWARD (13) can be his own worst enemy but there's no doubting the talent. He carries only 52.5kg and barrier 4 should allow Lachlan Neindorf to keep things simple. A clean beginning could see him land in an ideal position.
ANGEL CAPITAL (5) hasn't enjoyed much luck in some major races, including this one 12 months ago. There have been other occasions since when circumstances haven't helped either. He has the ability to win a race like this if Ben Melham can find clear air when it matters.
LADY SHENANDOAH (6) brings strong form into this and barrier 1 gives Craig Williams the chance to conserve ground. She's a quality mare who looks well suited with 56kg.
TENNESSEE BOUND (18) has barely put a foot wrong this preparation and brings a different profile to many of these. He should be able to work forward from barrier 11 and the 52kg gives him every chance to remain competitive when the pressure goes on.
LONGSHOTS
TOM KITTEN (1) has plenty against him with 59kg and barrier 14, but we're getting $26 about a horse whose peak performances are certainly good enough for this level. Mark Zahra takes the ride and he's one to include at the big price.
VERDICT
SUN GOD (14) gets the lightweight chance we've been looking for. Barrier 2, 52.5kg and strong recent form give him the right profile to make the jump into Group 1 company.

FUNDAMENTAL NATURE (13) has returned in excellent order with two strong performances this campaign. John Allen gets back aboard and that's significant given he's partnered her for all three career victories. Barrier 2 should allow her to conserve ground behind what looks a genuine tempo and she gets her chance to turn the tables on Cruiserweight.
DANGERS
CRUISERWEIGHT (17) had Fundamental Nature covered by the barest of margins last time and continues to race extremely well. Barrier 5 gives Ethan Brown plenty of options and another strong performance looks likely.
PORTER (7) should be prominent despite the wider alley. His first-up second was encouraging and with a solid tempo expected he should get his opportunity to build momentum from the front.
STEALTH OF NIGHT (11) is another who can roll forward and make her own luck. She went close last start and Blake Shinn stays aboard, making her difficult to leave out.
LONGSHOTS

VERDICT
FUNDAMENTAL NATURE (13) gets John Allen back aboard and draws to receive an ideal run behind the speed. There's very little between her and Cruiserweight on their latest clash, and the map gives her every opportunity to reverse the result.
