R6 CHAMPIONS SPRINT 1200m
1 36X1 GIGA KICK M Zahra (4) $5.00
2 X840 JEDIBEEL E Brown (8) $34
3 1X51 CABALLUS J Collett (9) $16
4 8X47 LIBERTAD T Marquand (1) $67
5 7X12 TROPICUS D Lane (6) $9.50
6 1X15 JOLIESTAR J McDonald (7) $3.10
7 X130 MAGIC TIME M Dee (5) $18
8 47X7 BENEDETTA J Melham (10) $34
9 X832 FLYING FOR FUN J Childs (2) $29
10 X311 TENTYRIS C Williams (3) $2.75
BEST
(6) JOLIESTAR — Newmarket winner who flashed home impressively in The Shorts before holding ground in The Everest when unsuited by the tempo. McDonald sticks and she’ll relish a genuine run down the straight.
(10) TENTYRIS — Brilliant late closer who came from nowhere to win the Coolmore after being stuck in the wrong section at Flemington the start prior. Carries 53.5kg and looks the rising star of the sprint ranks.
DANGERS
(1) GIGA KICK — Dominant in the Schillaci despite being short of peak fitness and has trialled sharply since. Loves soft going.
(5) TROPICUS — Speed influence who’ll try to control the tempo. First go down the straight but will take catching if he handles it.
LONGSHOTS
(8) BENEDETTA — Loves the Flemington straight with 5 placings including 2 wins from 7 goes. Was a forgive-run in this year’s Newmarket. Trialled strongly since the Schillaci and could easily fill a placing at odds.
VERDICT
(6) JOLIESTAR to bounce back with a strong finish down the straight, ahead of (10) TENTYRIS, (1) GIGA KICK, and (8) BENEDETTA for value.
Summary: 6 – 10 – 1 – 8
R7 CHAMPIONS MILE (1600 m)
1 X212 MR BRIGHTSIDE C Williams (9) $4.20
2 4361 CEOLWULF C Schofield (7) $5.50
3 X134 PERICLES B Melham (4) $16
4 6220 LAKE FOREST T Marquand (6) $17
5 8834 STEPARTY H Coffey (10) $67
6 0731 VON HAUKE E Brown (5) $41
7 X171 PRIDE OF JENNI D Bates (2) $4.00
8 2X41 STEFI MAGNETICA J Collett (1) $9.50
9 1223 TREASURETHE MOMENT D Lane (3) $6.50
10 X432 LEICA LUCY J McDonald (8) $9.50
BEST
(10) LEICA LUCY — Victim of slow tempos in the Oaks and Let’s Elope but flying now that races are being run true. She produced a slick mid-race section in the Empire Rose when unsuited and still hit the line. Ready to win if they roll early.
(1) MR BRIGHTSIDE — Class galloper who keeps finding a way to measure up. Narrowly behind Pride Of Jenni in the King Charles and now back to his pet trip where he’s ultra-consistent. He's beaten her more times than she has him.
DANGERS
(7) PRIDE OF JENNI — Brutal front-runner who keeps daring rivals to catch her. Outstanding again in the Empire Rose when left alone in front. Gets the wind assistance here.
(2) CEOLWULF — Blinkers and genuine tempo brought the best out of him last time. Handles the mile beautifully and looks ready to hold that form against deeper opposition.
(9) TREASURETHE MOMENT — Brave effort in the Cox Plate after being forced into her run too soon. Back to 1600 m suits, and she’s capable of a strong finish with cover.
LONGSHOTS
(4) LAKE FOREST — Forgive the King Charles run when never comfortable in the rhythm. Tom Marquand back aboard and could easily improve at odds.
VERDICT
(10) LEICA LUCY to relish a fast tempo on the seven-day back-up..
Summary: 10 – 1 – 7 – 9
R8 CHAMPIONS STAKES (2000 m)
1 X545 TOM KITTEN B Melham (8) $9.50
2 0695 LIGHT INFANTRY MAN D Bates (3) $11
3 0543 KOVALICA D Lane (2) $17
4 3324 ATTRITION C Williams (5) $16
5 X602 ALENQUER J Mott (11) $51
6 X353 PIER E Brown (6) $13
7 1302 GOLDEN PATH J Childs (4) $19
8 12X6 POINT KING C Gaudray (1) $41
9 1111 ZAMBARDO J Melham (9) $15
10 1331 VIA SISTINA J McDonald (10) $1.70
11 3X37 BENAGIL M Dee (7) $20
BEST
(10) VIA SISTINA — Outstanding mare who’s dominated the spring WFA scene albeit only won twice. Produced huge closing sectionals in both the Makybe Diva and Turnbull before digging deep to fend off Buckaroo in the Cox Plate. Completed this double last year and looks set to repeat it.
(1) TOM KITTEN — Genuine stayer with proven Group 1 WFA form at 2000m. Was third to Via Sistina and Dubai Honour in last year’s Queen Elizabeth and again found the line strongly in the King Charles. Ideal set-up second-up to 2000m.
DANGERS
(6) PIER — Ready for 2000m now. Lacked dash over the mile in the Epsom but kept finding for third in the King Charles. Has tactical versatility and could run a bold race at a price.
(4) ATTRITION — Brave in the Cox Plate after racing handy throughout. One-paced but very honest and capable of holding on for a minor placing if the tempo is genuine.
LONGSHOTS
(2) LIGHT INFANTRY MAN — Boxed on bravely in the Cox Plate and maps well again here. If the pace slackens mid-race, he’s one who can make his own luck near the speed.
(9) ZAMBARDO — Undefeated this prep and keeps improving. Faces his toughest test yet but worth thought for wider exotics.
VERDICT
(10) VIA SISTINA to complete the Cox Plate–Champions Stakes double again.

19 4922 FLUX N/A (2) $201
20 6161 IMMINANCE T Nugent (9) $81
BEST
(11) SWEETHEARTED — Ran huge sectionals first-up when coming widest on the turn from last and still finished close-up behind the on-pacer. His only run down the Flemington straight was excellent, charging home behind Alabama Lass. Fitter now and ready to peak.
(6) STOLI BOLLI — Ultra-consistent and thrives down the straight. Form around Dual Choice and Persian Spirit reads well, and he maps to get a lovely run stalking the speed. Hard to knock.
DANGERS
(10) BALASTIER — In career-best form for Danny O’Brien, who’s won this race twice before. Unbeaten this prep and looked terrific in a recent straight jumpout. Big danger again.
(15) JUST LIKE GABY — Raced handy and stuck on gamely last start behind Don’t Hope Do. Has matched Actuality at level weights and can figure with similar ride.
LONGSHOTS
(16) ACTUALITY — Slow away at Seymour but impressive late to score. Back to Flemington suits, and she’s open to sharp improvement second-up.
(3) GRAND LARCENY — Honest type who handles all conditions and could sneak into the finish if tempo suits.
VERDICT
(11) SWEETHEARTED to charge home and break through second-up, with (6) STOLI BOLLI the main danger.
