GOLDEN EAGLE | The G1 Blueprint
Seven editions, seven winners and now Group 1 status. The Golden Eagle is still building its history, but one trend is already striking: every winner has settled sixth or worse, while the Epsom and Toorak Handicaps have supplied five of the seven winners.

DO FAVOURITES DELIVER?
Just two favourites have won in seven editions, I'M THUNDERSTRUCK ($3.50) and AUTUMN GLOW ($1.75). LAKE FOREST ($19) is the longest-priced winner.
WHERE DO WINNERS SETTLE?
All seven winners settled sixth or worse, with five positioned eighth or further back. LAKE FOREST came from 17th in 2024. No horse settling in the first five has won.
WHICH LEAD-UP RACES MATTER?
The Epsom Handicap has supplied three winners and the Toorak Handicap another two. That's five of seven winners emerging from those two Group 1 handicaps. Four winners were fourth-up.
DO BARRIERS MATTER?
Six of seven winners jumped from barriers 2 to 8, including three from barrier eight. I WISH I WIN is the only winner drawn wider, jumping from gate 10. Keep in mind the race was previously run at Rosehill.
WHAT DOES RACE SHAPE TELL US?
Four of seven editions have produced a BRUTAL early tempo, including three of the last four. The 2025 edition was particularly demanding, with a tempo 1.56 seconds faster than standard and AUTUMN GLOW recording a winning FS% of just 97.1%.
Across all seven editions, the race PAR is 103.5%. But that average hides considerable variation, with winning FS% ranging from 97.1% to 110.1%.
FS% measures the relationship between overall race speed and finishing speed. A figure above 100% indicates a faster finish relative to the overall pace, while figures below 100% indicate more energy was spent earlier.
THE WINNING PROFILE
Settling midfield or worse, drawn inside barrier nine, with strong Group 1 mile form through the Epsom or Toorak Handicap. History is limited, but the ability to finish strongly off a demanding tempo looks particularly valuable.
