Six of the last seven winners of The Shorts have gone on to feature in The Everest in what shapes up to be a key lead up race to the richest race on turf.
Private Eye, Nature Strip, Eduardo, Classique Legend, Pierata and Redzel have all used The Shorts as a springboard into the 1200m feature in October with Pierata the only horse out of the six to not place in The Everest.

"Lanes 1 and 2 a tad inferior, lane 3 better and winnable. Best ground from lanes 4 and beyond. There is some wind into their faces as they go between the 800m to 400m. Suits off pace with cover"

UNDERWOOD STAKES
With legendary names such as Phar Lap, Octagonal, Northerly, and So You Think past winners of The Underwood, the Group 1 1800m race has become an important stepping stone to either the Caulfield Cup, Cox Plate or Melbourne Cup.
While winning does not guarantee success later in the Carnival, horses that have won The Underwood and gone on to win major G1s in the same prep - Ocean Park (2012) and So You Think (2010) won the Cox Plate; Elvstroem (2004), Mummify (2003) and Northerly (2002) won the Caulfield Cup; and Jeune (1994) won the Melbourne Cup.

Resumes. First Australian was a terrific 2nd behind VIA SISTINA. She is a G1 winner in France and has produced ratings in Europe to suggest she is right up to G1 WFA races in Australia. Her trials/jumpouts have been great and we can't see how she misses Top 3 @$1.95
