"Lane 1 a small penalty with Lane 2 better but the best ground is in Lanes 3 and beyond. Mid to wide draws will be ok in races over 1350m where you have a long run to the turn (see map above) enabling runners to get in with cover and then affording them the chance to get into the better lanes in the straight. Races over shorter trips, they hit the bend sooner making softer gates preferable. The bulk of the winners will likely be in Lanes 3 to 8. This should suit horses that stalk the tempo or sit midfield, blending in 3 horses and wider around the home turn."
